Bon Appétit’s Top Food Trends of 2010:
- Dish of the year: meatballs (but “not your grandma’s meatballs!”). More banh mi sandwiches? All good.
- Cuisine of the year: new Austrian (homemade pretzels, spaetzle, etc.). I’ll be honest, this was sort of surprising to me. This kind of food doesn’t seem particularly exciting, but we’ll see what top chefs can do with it.
- Ingredient of the year: Sriracha. Hasn’t this been the ingredient of the last few decades?
- Party of the year: modern vegetarian. This one is totally unsurprising. Thanks to books like Omnivore’s Dilemma and Food, Inc., vegetarianism and veganism no longer have the taboo they once did.
- Dessert of the year: all-American comfort. Brown betties and coconut cakes, etc. I’ll take it, for sure. Homey dessert food is heart-warming.
What do you guys think will be some of the top food trends/ingredients of ‘10?
