Make It: More Decadent Oatmeal
I tried something new this AM that proved to be sort of ingenious: I added a few bit of dark chocolate to my oatmeal before heating.
Um, why haven’t I thought of that before? Just a little bit of chocolate (an ounce or less) goes a long way when melted. Complete your bowl of oats with a ripe banana and some PB or almond butter, cook as usual on thestovetop or in the micro, and enjoy! The chocolate could replace any sweetener you’d normally use in your oatmeal and makes it just a LITTLE easier to get through the morning.
Another (sort of) bonus: the chocolate made my oatmeal taste so rich and decadent that I couldn’t finish my normal bowl. That’s definitely going into the oatmeal rotation.
Other ways to make your morning bowl more exciting:
pumpkin puree/pumpkin pie spice
shredded coconut
fruit preserves
any kind of nut butter (experiment with different kinds)
creative fruit (think tropical like pineapple, mango, etc.) or seasonal fruit like nectarines, plums, or cherries.
